Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

Chapterhouse was created to provide access to well-curated diverse literature in the Texas Panhandle area. We specialize in queer, racialized, and migrant literature to better reflect the community we live in, and we partner with local organizations to host community events and bring authors and opportunities to an area not prioritized by the book industry and most other institutions/systems. Through these events and our carefully curated collection, we aim to provide a community space specifically for queer, racialized, and migrant youth and young adults, as well as an educational space for our broader population that normalizes diverse content as we firmly believe that engagement with intersectional content builds a better community. As a pop-up store, we plan to establish a brick & mortar location that will center these populations and become a hub for mutual aid, community engagement, and education.
