Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

I founded Miss Read Books because I wanted to visit a bookstore and discover new stories that celebrated diverse identities, particularly from femme perspectives that didn’t center trauma or the feeling of being “othered.” As a Black woman, I wanted to highlight stories that elevated BIPOC characters and their stories beyond what you’ll normally see in mainstream entertainment.
