Share a quote from a book or poem that bares your bookstore’s soul.
“The Wild Rose” by Wendell Berry
Sometimes hidden from me
in daily custom and in trust,
so that I live by you unaware
as by the beating of my heart,
suddenly you flare in my sight,
a wild rose blooming at the edge
of thicket, grace and light
where yesterday was only shade,
and once more I am blessed, choosing
again what I chose before.
Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?
Founded in 1987 as a mystery-specialty store, the Raven has since expanded its scope to include more general titles, with curation focused on representing voices that have long been under-represented in publishing, especially those in the queer community. In our local community, we act as an information hub for local events and activist PSAs, as well as a safe, welcoming space for those with marginalized identities.
Which champion/warrior/wildcat (real or mythological) does your bookstore channel most?
The Raven, the trickster
