Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

We were founded to create a safe environment for all who currently do not have that in our state (Texas). It is important, especially in Texas, for all people to see themselves represented in the stories they read and have places that offer a safe space for those who are underrepresented in our local community. Bookstores have historically been a safe space for political discourse, and books are a major catalyst for social change — something that is desperately needed in Texas. We use our store to amplify local voices and to give our community a space to always embrace their weird.

What makes your bookstore unique?

We are here to support those who are just trying to find a home, a Third Place, where they have freedom to express themselves. We like to celebrate the uniqueness of people and we want to give people the tools for the fight we all face in finding a place to call home. We want to show everyone in our community that there are still safe spaces where they can just be themselves. We understand that everyone has their own unique interests and preferences, and we embrace that by curating a diverse collection of books that cater to different genres, themes, and reading levels.

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

We are the Little Bookstore That Could. We started in our owner/founder’s garage during the pandemic and built our way to where we are today. Our last location was inside a Texas Wine Bar!
