Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

The Irreverent Bookworm was founded by a neurodivergent introverted queer person with absolutely no previous experience in the book world (seriously, none. Not even a relevant college degree). It was created purely from a place of love for books and the desire to provide a non-snobby and safe/accessible space for other book lovers in our community and beyond! We don’t take bookselling too seriously, and we hope folx who visit us pick up on that vibe and feel seen and at home in our shop the minute they walk in!

What makes your bookstore unique?

Even though we are a predominantly secondhand shop, customers often can’t tell the difference between our new and used stock, as we pride ourselves on offering affordable, relevant secondhand books in great condition as well as closely-curated new titles. We offer the comfort & whimsy of a tenured secondhand establishment, but with a younger, weirder, queer-er twist! Come for the comfy chairs and pride flags, stay for our diverse selection and awesome team members!
