What are the 3 adjectives you would use to describe your bookstore?

African financial, Cohesive, Politically aware

Share a quote from a book or poem that bares your bookstore’s soul.

“When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep”

William Butler Yeats / “When You Are Old”

Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

When I was relocated, due to my job, from DC to SC, there were only 2 bookstores in this community. The population is more white than black, but the surrounding cities did not have a Black-owned bookstore that sold not only AA, but all genres. I knew they needed a push to see that a bookstore is not just a place to buy books. It is also a place to hear poetry, sing songs, a place where kids play, where law enforcement joins, and a place for parents’ use.

Which champion/warrior/wildcat (real or mythological) does your bookstore channel most?

My grandmother. She walked me to my first library. Growing up, she did not have a library to visit.

What makes your bookstore unique?

Our large and various types of books and side items we sell, and our involvement with the community center.

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

I follow the Dave Ramsey Plan: my store has no debt, and I do not create debt.
