Wild Lark Books

Mid-South, Texas

513 Broadway Street, Lubbock, TX 79401

What are the 3 adjectives you would use to describe your bookstore?

Warm. Charming. Intentional.

Share a quote from a book or poem that bares your bookstore’s soul.

“Remember that the minute you take your first step into the life of your dreams, the first to greet you there will be fear. Nod. Keep walking.” – Brianna Wiest

Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

Wild Lark Books is a place that honors authors as artists, believes in the importance of storytelling, and is the only independent bookstore in Lubbock, Texas, dedicated to new books. It is owned by a neurodivergent, pagan, LGBTQ+ bookworm who has also founded the Wild Lark Books Fund to support aspiring authors from historically unserved communities and minority voices. All are most welcome, and we’ve always got the kettle on awaiting you.

Which champion/warrior/wildcat (real or mythological) does your bookstore channel most?

Joan of Arc.

What makes your bookstore unique?

Each book is hand-picked. We sell local authors, but never on consignment because we believe every author should be paid for their artistry. And we have a complimentary tea cart in the Reading Room – where we host our weekly Salon Nights.

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

For anyone who hasn’t visited in person, we have a secret door in the bookshop! For those who have visited us, the two paintings by the front door are by a Druid and lovely artist in Scotland with whom the owner of the bookshop had a very lovely lunch at The Harbourmaster’s Cafe in Kirkcaldy. Indeed, stories are everywhere within Wild Lark Books.
