Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

Third House was founded in October 2016, a bit before the election. Things were looking grim and my friend Kiren, the founder, knew that our town would need a space for people to meet, talk, read, decompress, whatever it may be. I’ve been sole owner since 2018, and have worked to stock books by marginalized voices, small presses, especially when it comes to the unique social landscape in Florida.

What makes your bookstore unique?

I don’t want my bookstore to come with the sensory overload of large bookstore chains where you have to go in with a list and purpose. It’s about the charm of discovery and making room for serendipity through curation.

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

The store (Oct 28th) and I (Oct 29th) share almost the same birthday, and I hadn’t been around when it was founded. When I found out, I took it as a sign I was where I needed to be. A Scorpio run by a Scorpio also explains being chaotic.
