Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

Scout was founded in hopes of bringing community, creativity and learning together in one place. My favorite thing is to learn something new with other people. Being a non-fiction bookstore we offer books and hopefully another way to connect with fellow information nerds, crafters, cooks, artisans or anyone one who craves knowledge and creativity.

Which champion/warrior/wildcat (real or mythological) does your bookstore channel most?

A mix of Gloria Steinem, Celia Cruz, and Marcel Duchamp

What makes your bookstore unique?

Scout is unique because we are mostly a non-fiction bookstore except for the kids section and a teeny tiny bit of fiction. We love cookbooks, crafts, DIY, Biographies, Gardening, Self Help, Travel, reference and any other sort of non-fiction writing. I realized I mostly read non-fiction and have been having a blast curating this genre for our little but mighty pop-up store!

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

The owner is a proud Puerto Rican raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, has raised 2 wonderful humans, is currently a SUD Counselor who is chipping away at a MA in psychology, who worked in the entertainment industry for years and is now following her dream of sharing books with like-minded community.
