Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

We exist to uplift the oppressed, smash the kyriarchy, and offer an inclusive, safe community space in Elk Grove. We create an important sense of local identity and connection, offer events and activities for everyone, and carry a diverse and meaningful book selection for all ages.

What makes your bookstore unique?

We are deeply mission-driven in our focus on diversity, inclusion, and intersectional education in a suburban community that still has many markers of its small, white farm town past. We’re the only intersectional community hub in our city and are proud to host events like AAPI Heritage Weekend, Pride Weekend, and a partnered Juneteenth event with the Black-owned coffee shop Savvy House Coffee Bar.
