What are the 3 adjectives you would use to describe your bookstore?

Eclectic, Black, Vibes

Share a quote from a book or poem that bares your bookstore’s soul.

“Celebrate with me that everyday something has tried to kill me and has failed.”

Won’t you celebrate with me / Lucille Clifton

Why was your bookstore founded/what role does it play in the community?

Rep Club was founded as a concept bookshop and creative space Curated by Blackness™ that provides not only a safe space but an essential one for Black voices, creativity, and beyond.

Which champion/warrior/wildcat (real or mythological) does your bookstore channel most?

Does a flamingo count? We’re a little loud, a little weird, and defy a lot of expectations.

What makes your bookstore unique?

We are LA’s very first Black woman-owned bookshop (to our knowledge and research). We carry an eclectic array of titles with an emphasis on art and the margins, and the space itself is designed like no other. We also play 90s r&b and music videos all day to keep the vibe right.

What is something that no one knows about your bookstore?

Many of the colors and textures you see throughout the space are tied to very specific memories and books from our founder Jazzi’s childhood! Like her dad’s green shag carpet, Faith Ringgold’s books and quilts, and Blue Magic hair grease.
